First 3G iPhone Coming Exclusively to Vodaphone UK?
The rumor mill keeps on spinning. We've heard consistent rumors about the 3G iPhone over the last year or so. None of these, quite clearly, have ever come to fruitition. Does that keep us from reporting them? Of course not.
The latest rumor comes from a variety of European blogs, primarily the Italian mobile site morse.it. Morse.it is reporting that a UMTS/3G verison of the Apple iPhone may be coming to the UK as early as Spring 2008, exclusive to Vodaphone.
But wait, what about the exclusive agreement Apple made with 02? Apparently, if that agreement referred solely to the EDGE version of the iPhone - Apple and Vodaphone could have made a backroom exclusivity agreement for the 3G version of the iPhone.
Conventional wisdom has suggested that Apple will indeed release a new version of the iPhone, a 3G/UMTS version, as early as January 2008. These rumors are based on a variety of sources such as insider leaks, reports from parts suppliers, and patent filings. Many expect to see the second generation, 3G iPhone announced at next year's MacWorld Expo.
As always, only time will tell.
